Environmental safety

In the area of environmental safety, the risks of the enzyme and of the production organism when released into the environment have to be assessed.
Numerous studies have demonstrated that enzymes are biodegradable. Since enzymes are just proteins their release into the environment does not raise concerns.
The release of the production organism itself is controlled by two categories of safety measures: physical and biological containment. Both of them ensure that the production process of enzymes does not produce any harm to the environment.
